Something inspired me this week to take my kids to the movies. Maybe inspired is the wrong word...maybe posessed is more appropriate.
Anyway, the plan originally was to go to a matinee on Thursday afternoon. Then Jason made plans, so we decided to go Thursday evening.
This is how it went...
6:05 Daddy gets home, everyone is already sitting at the table inhaling dinner.
6:20 Everyone running around looking for shoes. Mom yelling. Dad yelling.
6:30 Everyone in car, buckled and ready to go.
6:40 Movie starts
6:50 We get to movie theater
Did you know that 3D movies are more expensive to get into? Fortunately we only have to buy four tickets, so it ONLY costs us $43. Thank goodness we are too late to buy snacks!
6:51 Perfect timing we missed all the previews. We are just in time to rip the plastic off our attractive 3D glasses and put them on to watch the show.
6:55 Ryan is crying and saying he wants to go home. Doesn't want to watch the movie. Doesn't like the glasses doesn't like the dark.
7:00 Layla needs to go potty. Ryan needs to go potty. Mom takes both kids to potty. Only Layla can go.
7:15 Austin needs to go potty. Dad takes Austin potty.
7:20 Mom bribes Ryan with gum to sit quietly and stop whining and saying he needs to go potty.
7:30 Layla needs to go potty. Dad takes her.
7:45 Austin needs to go potty. Dad takes him.
7:55 Scarey part of movie, mom screams, Austin throws 3d glasses two rows in front of us. Fortunately we have a few extra pairs because neither Ryan nor Layla are wearing theirs.
8:10 Austin has to go potty. This time we just make him go by himself.
8:12 Mom starts to get very nervous because she sent her 6 year old to the bathroom by himself and he is not back yet.
8:12 30secs Austin is back, phew!
8:30 Movie ends. We all survived. No one was murdered by an angry stressed out mom. We made it. And it was a pretty good movie.
Moral of the story: Don't take your kids to the movies until they can go to the potty by themselves without you worrying that some creepy stranger is going to steal them. Or maybe just always go on your own with your spouse so you can eat junk food for the same amount as it would have cost to bring the kids!

I'll keep this in mind :)
Each summer we think, "oh, maybe the kids are old enough to sit through a movie this year." Then we remember that they are NOT!!
My favorite part of the story is Austin throwing his glass two rows ahead. That made me laugh out loud!!
You are good parents for trying to do something special with your kids. Even if the kids screw it up... why do they do that when we are trying to be so nice to them!?!?
How funny! You reminded me that I just had a similar experience with my two oldest a week ago... I'm not sure I blogged about it. Check back with me later. :)
Oh, and what the heck movie did you go to? My movie tickets were for me, Madeline and Langston and I only paid $14! I guess it was the 3D experience. Or the cool glasses were made of gold. :)
Ha! That cracks me up. This is why we have never taken our kids to the movies yet. We are too afraid of what our children will do. I also laughed out loud about Austin throwing his glasses. Funny.
hey you can borrow my copy...;)
The things we go through for our kids! No offense, but I think your kids have unusually small bladders. :)
I laughed so hard reading this...probably because I have a thought for a split second on the notion of taking my kids to the movies, but something always stops me...thanks for verifying it's not a great idea for now.
cute post! you are brave my friend. I loved this play by play...
