Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!

We had a big storm this weekend. It started snowing Friday night/early Saturday morning and snowed for about 24 hours. Today it is nice and sunny and the streets are all clear. We let the kids go out and play on the deck. It took about 15 minutes to get them all bundled up and I think they were outside for less than 10 minutes. But they had a great time.

I should be working on my paper, but it is so hard to go with a little boy snuggled in my arms!!

Windows into the soul?

I hope this doesn't creep anyone out. I was playing with my camera today and wanted to use the Macro button...I was too lazy to get up, so I took a picture of my eye. I was fascinated at the different colors and shades that I could see in my eye that I never thought were there. I proceeded to force each member of my family to have their eye picture taken. And I did not get these pictures on the first try...they were all pretty patient.

Layla's Classwork

This is what Layla brought home from school the other day on the back of her classwork. I think that she is a little bit bored with the things they are learning in kindergarten because she already knows how to read. Her class is still learning about letters...but I am a little concerned...

If you can't understand a 5 year old's writing it says: No. I do not want to be a farmer because I will have to cut the pigs opened.and yes, that is a knife in her hand!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween at the Crowls!
We had a great time this year. I did not manage to get a picture of the three of them together, but got tons of pictures of each of them. Hope you enjoy these.

Pumpkin Patch

One Wednesday afternoon we took the kids to the pumpkin patch. It was so fun!

Layla with her pumpkin that almost weighs as much as she does!

Austin wanted a green pumpkin!
And he found a good one.

Ryan was thrilled to find a tiny pumpkin.
Aren't we cute! Or at least Jason is...

Apples!!

A week or so ago we went to the apple farm and picked apples. We took a small ride out to the trees. The farm had three different kinds of apples growing.
These were the red delicious. There were so many apples!

We got a giant box full.
I didn't really think about what we were going to do with all of these apples. My kids like apples and eat them all the time. But 20pounds of apples sure is a lot! I decided to make applesauce.
I found a recipe on line. 4 apples chopped, 1/4 cup sugar, 3/4 cup water, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Throw it all in a crockpot on high for three hours and you have applesauce.

This is the first batch of applesauce, with cinnamon in it.

Of course I had to sample it. Hot applesauce on vanilla ice cream, delicious!

This is the second batch of applesauce without cinnamon.

"More applesauce, please, Mom!"

Autumn

This is my favorite part of fall. Yes, I know that I am a grown-up and shouldn't like sugary candies, but there is just something about candy corn. I LOVE IT!!! It is a toss up between the normal candy corn the pumpkin shaped candies. I like to eat one of each. Austin likes to eat pumpkins only. Ryan likes the "carrots" only. Layla is impartial. What do you like?

Gotta go back, back, back to school again!

If anyone can tell me what song and movie that title comes from, you will win a treat!

The first day of school Austin got on the bus and went off to second grade.

A little while later I took Layla to school where she had gradual entry. She got to go to the cafeteria and get milk and a cookie. She looked so tiny walking up to the school with her giant back pack.

In fact, both of my kids looked tiny with their loaded up backpacks.

All in all it was a good start to school for the year. Layla got on the bus the next day with her friends and did well! She does look a little apprehensive in the picture of her getting on the bus!
